CONCERT BAND
In this beginning-intermediate course, we will explore the world of instrumental music though fun and exciting band repertoire! Students will specialize in playing an instrument from the woodwind, brass, or percussion sections. By preparing music for three concerts over the course of the year, students will develop basic instrumental techniques and sight-reading skills.
JAZZ BAND
This auditioned advanced class only accepts students who've showcased impressive dedication and have learned basic instrumental techniques. The ensemble features not only woodwind and brass instruments, but also piano, guitar, and drums. Jazz Band performs at concerts and various community events over the course of the year, including collaborating with the Pinole Valley High School band program under the direction of Alli Torf.
CHOIR
This year marks the return of choir as a class at Pinole Middle School. This class teaches young singers to apply health vocal technique to music of many different genres and languages. Students will explore both choral ensemble music and solo music of their choice. We are working directly with the choir program at Pinole Valley High School under the direction of Joseph Lim, who also supports us as our collaborative pianist.
GUITAR
In this beginning-intermediate course, we will learn the basics of playing the guitar! Students will prepare pieces for three performances over the course of the year while learning to read music for guitar in standard notation, tablature, and chord diagrams. The ensemble will work as an ensemble to develop strumming and picking techniques, quick chord transitions, musical artistry, and a unified ensemble sound.
